Dear fellow hams, please be aware that there is a criminal in our midst.
He calls himself Pieter van der Merwe, and said that he lives in George. He signed one of the Watsapp messages to me “73 PJ”.
A while back I put a post here for a Heathkit HW-8 QRP rig. Some of you may have seen it.
This Pieter contacted me on the 31st of March, and sent photos of an HW-8 and the PSU. They looked ok, and we negotiated a price, which included the Postnet fee.
He asked me if I could do an instant money transfer, which I did in good faith. I have dealt with fellow hams in this way before, and always found them to be trustworthy.
Having sent him the money, I requested a tracking number but received no reply from him. I have tried since then on many occasions to contact him, but the phone calls and messages are not answered.
I pass this along to our hamming community, to prevent anyone else being caught as I was. The cell numbers I have for this criminal are 073 077 0961 and 083 509 9062. Please be careful.
